Northern California Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Lawyers
Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Thousands of construction workers are hospitalized every year because of carbon monoxide poisoning, and many tragically die from exposure to the odorless, colorless, deadly gas. Carbon monoxide is produced when fuels, such as gasoline are burned, and can be found in the exhaust of trucks, pressure washers, gasoline generators, cut-off saws, brush cutters, chainsaws, and water pumps. Workers who are exposed to carbon monoxide may suffer severe symptoms and permanent brain damage. Victims may never be able to regain the quality of life they knew before exposure to carbon monoxide.
The northern California construction accident lawyers at Estey Bomberger are here to help victims of carbon monoxide poisoning with the personal injury claims process. Although no amount of money can turn back time and prevent the construction accident from happening, recovering monetary compensation can assist with your medical expenses, lost wages, and the pain and suffering you have endured. Also, taking legal action can deter employers from neglecting the safety of their employees in the future. Our northern California carbon monoxide poisoning lawyers will handle all legal aspects of your personal injury claim with integrity and care.
Symptoms of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Three main factors contribute to the severity of carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms: the amount of carbon monoxide in the area, how long the exposure lasts and the activity level of the victim. A construction employee working at a low to moderate level of activity can still inhale large concentrations of carbon monoxide and experience the following symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning:
- Headache
- Weakness
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Chest pain
- Confusion
- Impaired judgment
- Loss of consciousness.
Anoxic Brain Injuries
Construction workers who are overcome with carbon monoxide may suffer from an anoxic brain injury, or cerebral hypoxia or hypoxic-anoxic injury (HAI) as it is sometimes called, which is a serious and possibly life-threatening injury. When a worker is exposed to carbon monoxide, oxygen levels supplied to the brain are lowered, inhibiting the body's ability to carry necessary oxygen to vital organs and body tissues, which can quickly cause brain cells to begin to die. After an extended period of exposure, typically five minutes or longer, a victim may lose consciousness and permanent anoxic brain injury can occur. If a victim is able to regain full consciousness, symptoms may resemble those seen after a head injury. Effects may include loss of short-term memory, impaired performance of executive functions (judgment making and processing information), limited processing of visual information, coordination, ability to perform daily tasks, ability to move limbs, movement disorders, muscle spasms, trembling, and headaches. Symptoms may vary widely.
